Ferriday — After battling through a 1-0 pitcher’s duel Friday night against Adams County Christian School, the Trinity Episcopal baseball team loaded up on hits Saturday.

The Saints pounded out 17 hits and scored 12 runs in a 12-2 defeat of Amite School Center.

“Our kids came out a little early after last night and we got started up swinging the bats,” Trinity head coach Mitch Ashmore said. “It was good to come out and see live pitching, and it was a tough job getting moving early, but we did what we had to do today.”

Sky Logan led the Saints’ offensive onslaught going 4-for-4 with a double and three runs scored.

Ashmore said Logan has been a consistent hitter all year for Trinity and throughout his career.

Daniel Dunaway, Andrew Moroney, Jake Winston, Jared Hedrick and Trey Fleming each added two hits a piece to help the Saints offense.

Trinity opened up the scoring with two runs in the first inning scored by Moroney and Winston.

Trinity extended its lead to 3-0 after Fleming walked to lead off the second inning and scored on an RBI single by Dunaway.

ASC got its two runs in the top of the third when Brandon Terrell singled to score Bull Toler and Benji Varnardo.

The Saints stretched the lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the third with Hedrick, Fleming and Joseph McClatchy each getting RBIs.

Trinity scored four more in the fourth inning with the big hit coming off the bat of Quinton Logan in the form of a two-RBI double.

The Saints finished the game off in the fifth inning when Sky Logan singled to score Moroney and Fleming singled to score Sky to give Trinity a 10-run lead.

Ashmore said he was pleased with the way his team came out focused after an emotional win over ACCS Friday.

Dunaway started the game and pitched two innings to get the win for Trinity. He did not give up a run and struck out two batters.

Toler took the loss for ASC.

Trinity (6-5, 2-1) will face ACCS Monday night in the completion of a game that was postponed by rain in the second inning on April 3.
