NATCHEZ — Ginny Daggett had seven RBIs for the Lady Green Wave as Cathedral pounded rival St. Aloysius 13-3 Wednesday afternoon in a makeup game.

Daggett had a bases-clearing triple in the second inning and a bases-clearing single in the third inning to lead the way for Cathedral. Starter Mollie Devening pitched all five innings to get the win after the game was called due to the 10-runs-after-five mercy rule.

“It was a good win,” Cathedral head coach Gary Blackwell said. “We’re 4-0 in (region) now. We had some good, timely hits. We got our sacrifice bunts down. It was an overall good game.”

Devening gave up three runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and one walk for the Lady Green Wave, and Blackwell said the runs were the result of fielding miscues late in the game.

“She got herself into a couple of binds and was able to pull out of them,” Blackwell said. “They didn’t score until the fourth and fifth inning, and that was on errors. I don’t think she had any earned runs.”

Daggett finished the game 3-for-4, and Kimble Devening was 2-for-4. Mackenzie Watts went 3-for-3, and Mollie Devening had a double.

Blackwell said any win against St. Al was a good win, and he’s very pleased with the way his girls have been playing since regional play began.

“They know what they have to do, and they’re doing a good job,” Blackwell said.

Cathedral (12-4-1) will host West Lincoln Tuesday.

Pineville 2, Monterey 0

Paige Bryan took the loss for Monterey High School as the Lady Wolves could not get anything going offensively Wednesday.

Monterey finished with just three hits, with Bailey New being the Lady Wolves’ only multiple hitter. She finished the game 2-for-3.

Bryan went the distance for Monterey, giving up two earned runs on six hits and striking out two.

Monterey (12-12, 5-2) will host Grace Christian at 4:30 p.m. today.
