NATCHEZ &045; Forget the 29 runs scored or the 29 hits pounded out against a fledgling Jefferson County team.

The biggest reason Natchez High’s Bulldogs had to smile after its doubleheader sweep of the Tigers was the pitching. Johnny Williams was solid in the first game, and freshman Travis Isaac came up with four solid innings in Game 2 to keep everything going in the right direction.

Natchez won the first game 16-1 and the second game 13-3.

&uot;The key to the game was pitching, I must say,&uot; NHS head coach Charlie Williams said. &uot;We threw strikes today. I kind of played with saving my better pitchers, and they did a good job of throwing strikes. Johnny went all five, but Travis could have made it but I didn’t want to risk it. He’s been the most consistent throwing strikes.&uot;

The Bulldogs got big-time production at the plate, though, that they haven’t had before. Namely C.J. Wright, who blasted one over the 375 sign in left center in the first inning with a man on base, and he came back in the fourth and lofted one over the fence down the left-field line.

Cedar Creek 11, Block 6

JONESVILLE, La. &045; Block got to find out how good of a team Cedar Creek is, even though the Bears led 6-2 early in the game.

That’s because Cedar Creek got four in the third to tie it up and piled on five more runs as the game went on to take the win. The Bears got most all of their five hits in the first two innings before struggling against pitchers Jordan Kincannon and lefty reliever Kevin Campbell.

Kincannon went four.

The Bears (7-12) got two in the first when A.J. Sharp homered with Chase Sharp on base.

In the second, the Bears got four as Evan White singled in Brian Collins, Adam Coldiron doubled in White and Chris McCarthny and Coldiron scored on a sacrifice fly.
