NATCHEZ &045; Even before play was finished on Wednesday afternoon, the Division 7-1A Golf Championship at the Duncan Park Golf Course was dominated by Cathedral in both the team score and the individual results.

Jordan Farmer got off to a red-hot start on his way to a 5-under-par 66, and Matthew Hall made some key putts en route to a solid round of 75 as Cathedral won its sixth straight division championship with a team score of 307.

&uot;They played great. I was real pleased with the scores,&uot; Cathedral golf coach Ken Beesley Jr. said. &uot;I didn’t know how they would play today, but they played good. I was expecting division champs, but I’m hoping for State champs.&uot;

Cathedral will play in the Class 1A State Tournament at Vicksburg Country Club on May 10-11.

&uot;We’ve finished second two years in a row at State and this group really wants it,&uot; Beesley said.

How dominating was Cathedral’s golf team? The Green Wave defeated second-place Bogue Chitto by 106 shots and Mary Kate Byrne, playing her second tournament in as many days, had the high score for the winning team with an 87 and she had a lower score than anyone on the other three teams &045; Bogue Chitto, Enterprise and West Lincoln.

&uot;She played well,&uot; Beesley said of Byrne. &uot;I figured she would be a little tired. The group she played with didn’t play that well.&uot;

Farmer, who started on No. 3 with T.J. Sandifer of Enterprise, Joseph Hart of Bogue Chitto and Shawn Sutter of West Lincoln, had a stretch of birdies on Nos. 5, 6, 7 and 8 for a front-nine 31. He then continued his torrid pace with birdies on 10, 12 and the difficult par-3 13th.

&uot;I parred the first two holes and then just took off with it,&uot; Farmer said. &uot;I got it going on the front nine.&uot;

And it appeared Farmer was well on his way to a birdie on the par-5 14th after his tee shot ended up just 70 yards from the hole. His second shot, however, landed just past the hole and off the green. He would end up three-putting for bogey. He later had a bogey on No. 16 to go to 4-under-par.

&uot;I lipped out a birdie on 18. I hit a good tee shot and had 12 feet for birdie,&uot; Farmer said. &uot;I’ll take par on 17 and 18. Those are the two toughest holes on the course. I hit three or four bad shots. Overall, I played as good as I could. I had 27 putts. I putted real well.&uot;

Hall did well on the front nine, shooting a 1-over 36. And despite having some problems on the back for a 3-over 39, his score of 75 got him second place individually.

&uot;It was consistent,&uot; Hall said. &uot;I made a couple of 10-15 footers for birdies. I had a couple of bogeys that set me back. Today I hit it straight most of the day. I got on the green in two on two of the par-5s, 5 and 14, and birdied both of those. This is the best I’ve shot this year.&uot;

Jake Kaiser shot an 81 and Aaron Murray had an 84 for the Green Wave.

&uot;I knew we would four of the top five scores,&uot; Beesley said. &uot;I didn’t know we would have the top five.&uot;

Hart shot a 93 and Nick Hatten fired a 99 to lead Bogue Chitto to its second-place finish with a team score of 413. Sandifer had a round of 114 and Colby Sullivan shot a 115 to lead Enterprise to a third-place finish at 470. West Lincoln ended up withdrawing after two players did not turn in their scorecards.

&uot;The other teams don’t get to practice as much as we do and the scores reflected that,&uot; Beesley said. &uot;But they had a good time.&uot;
