BOGUE CHITTO — Cathedral High School’s Thomas Garrity gave up just one hit in seven innings to lead the Green Wave to a sweep of Bogue Chitto High School Friday.

After beating Bogue Chitto 3-2 at home Tuesday, the Green Wave rode Garrity’s performance to a 4-0 win, improving Cathedral to 3-1 in its region.

Garrity yielded just two walks and struck out nine batters, and Green Wave head coach Craig Beesley said Garrity stayed ahead in the count all night.

“He kept his fastball down in the strike zone,” Beesley said. “He was throwing his fastball and curveball for strikes. Blake Martin also made two good plays in center field for us.”

Kyle Bradley led offensively, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple and a two-run home run that gave the Green Wave an early lead in the first inning.

“He led off the third inning with a triple and we stranded him,” Beesley said. “We just couldn’t drive him in.”

But the Green Wave added two more insurance runs in the top of the fifth inning. Caleb Upton scored on a bases-loaded walk by Daniel Huffines, and Garrity came home on a fielder’s choice groundout by Trevor Farmer.

Cathedral has just two more conference games left against rival St. Aloysius, and Beesley said he was glad to be 3-1 in league play going into that series.

“We split with West Lincoln and swept Bogue Chitto, and St. Al and West Lincoln split tonight, so they’re both 2-2,” Beesley said. “That gives us a one-game lead, and hopefully we’ll have a good series with (St. Al) the week after Easter.”

Even though the Flashes weren’t as strong last season as they have been in year’s past, Beesley said he’s expecting a much better team from St. Al this season.

“It’s going to be a good series,” Beesley said. “It’s a good rivalry, so hopefully we’ll have two good games. Thomas really stepped up on the mound for us, so it looks like he’ll be our No. 2 pitcher.”

Cathedral (7-6 overall) will play at 7 p.m. Monday at Franklin County.
