NATCHEZ — The Grand Soleil Hotel will soon be getting new owners and a new name.
Bankruptcy court documents show the court approved the sale of the hotel and proposed casino property to RJB Financing LLC, one of the hotel’s creditors, for approximately $5.6 million.
The company will fund the purchase through a credit bid, which is based on the property’s outstanding debt, with a $1.5 million letter of credit and approximately $4.1 million cash. The properties were sold free and clear from any outstanding liens.
Leon and Kristy Atkins of Natchez purchased the Grand Soleil’s former third property, The Briars bed and breakfast, in the fall.
The properties were put up for sale last fall under pressure of bankruptcy proceedings.
In May 2011, several local private creditors including Good Hope Construction, Farmer Electrical Service Company and Ketco petitioned to force Grand Soleil into involuntary Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Grand Soleil reportedly owed the companies a total of $1.6 million. The resort elected to enter voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August 2011.
Grand Soleil’s bankruptcy proceedings followed recent years of financial woes and a failed attempt to develop a proposed casino project.
Britton and Koontz Bank has initiated and canceled foreclosure proceedings against Grand Soleil four times in recent years. Grand Soleil also evaded foreclosure proceedings initiated by United Mississippi Bank in December 2009.
For now, Rick Lindsley, chief financial officer of Grand Soleil LLC, said the hotel will operate as usual and soon be renamed Vue Hotel and Restaurant.
RJB Financing is currently operating the hotel and finalizing the final closing documents for the property purchase, Lindsley said. Court documents show the closing will be complete by April 12.
Lindsley said he was unsure if the RJB intends to ultimately sell the hotel.
Attempts to reach RJB attorney Kristina M. Johnson of the Jones Walker firm in Jackson Friday were unsuccessful.
