NATCHEZ — This weekend will be the stuff of fashion, arts and legends in the Miss-Lou.
Hat show
Models will take to the runway at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Natchez High School auditorium in an inspired hat and fashion show that celebrates the streets of Natchez.
The show “A Stroll through the Streets of Natchez” will have a mix of fantasy and bold statements, as well as practicality.
The show, which started in 1998 as an annual fundraiser for the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Inc. Southwest Chapter, has become one of the most popular fashion shows of its kind in the area.
NCBW is a volunteer women’s organization that works to provide programs and services that make a difference in the black community through health, education and economic development.
The focus of this year’s theme will be Main Street, Franklin Street, Pine Street and Broadway. One of the scenes will be a revisit to the 1970s, a nod to glitz and glamour.
NCBW members will also perform a dance presentation by members under the direction of Angela James.
Tickets for the show are available for $20 and can be purchased from any member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Southwest Chapter. Proceeds go to the NCBW scholarship fund.
Tickets may also be purchased at the door. There will be door prizes and light refreshments.
Youth Legends Ball
Inspiration and elbow rubbing will be the focus of the Southwest Mississippi Youth Legends ball at 7 p.m. Friday at the Natchez Community Center.
The event, organized by Fayette native Duvalier J. Malone, will give 150 students honored at the ball a chance to meet community leaders.
Among those attending will be U.S. Congressman Gregg Harper; C.E. Huffman, an anchor for FOX 30; Donna Smith, a poet; Kimberly Morgan, former Miss Mississippi; Beverly Hogan, Tougaloo College president and others.
Mario Radford, the worship leader and choir director for New Hope — The Vision Center who will perform at the ball, said the event will give young people a chance to actually meet the leaders and artists of the present as they look forward to carving out success in the future.
“It’s a chance to be able to interact with legends,” Radford said.
Craft fair and flea market
The Lovely Lane United Methodist Church will have its first craft fair and flea market from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the grounds of the church at 65 Morgantown Road. Up for sale will be jewelry, arts, sewn creations, food and much more.
