NATCHEZ — Adams County Administrator Cathy Walker submitted her resignation to the board of supervisors at the conclusion of its meeting Monday, citing health issues.
Walker’s resignation is effective March 31. However, Walker has agreed to remain on staff once her replacement is appointed.
“If (the supervisors) don’t get somebody appointed, I’ll be able to stay and help with the transition,” Walker said. “I’ll do whatever’s necessary.”
Walker’s county career began in August 2005, when she was hired as bookkeeping director. Walker was appointed county administrator in July 2006, succeeding former county administrator Charlie Brown. Brown became Adams County’s first administrator in 1989.
“I’ll miss it. It’s been a great job,” Walker said. “I’m glad the board of supervisors had confidence in me to appoint me, and I’ve learned a lot over the last few years.”
The supervisors will advertise the newly vacant position. Responsibilities include preparing the budget for consideration by the supervisors, overseeing all zoning and building code ordinances and receiving inquiries and complaints from county residents regarding the operation of county government.
“(Board of Supervisors President) Darryl Grennell calls me the mayor of Adams County,” Walker said, laughing. “I run the day-to-day business at the order of the board of supervisors.”
The supervisors voted unanimously to accept Walker’s resignation after adjourning a closed executive session to discuss personnel and possible litigation.
District 1 Supervisor Mike Lazarus said Walker will be sorely missed.
“You’ve been a good, loyal employee,” Lazarus told Walker.
Walker is the wife of Adams County Circuit Clerk Eddie Walker.
