FERRIDAY &045; A Sunday afternoon fire claimed the life of one parish woman after she helped save the lives of two others.

Carolyn Wilkinson, 42, died when her mobile home on Shady Acres caught fire around 3:35 p.m.

According to Concordia Sheriff’s Office reports, Wilkinson helped her sister-in-law Loretta Belle Wilson, 50, get Wilkinson’s physically challenged son out of the trailer.

Wilson and Johnny Wilkinson Jr., 27, escaped the fire.

Carolyn Wilkinson helped the two to the doorway before going back inside the trailer.

Wilson tried to re-enter the home to get Wilkinson, but the door had apparently locked behind Wilkinson when she went back in, reports said.

Sheriff’s Office Investigator Bobby Sheppard said Wilson told him that Wilkinson had lit a cigarette before going to her bedroom minutes before the fire broke out.

The fire completely destroyed the trailer, with the worst damage being in the center and spreading outward. The trailer’s roof was peeled back and the front walls disintegrated.

The CPSO and Concordia Parish Fire District No. 2 responded to the call.

CPSO and the state fire marshal’s office are investigating.

Three others reportedly lived in the mobile home &045; Wilkinson’s husband and daughter and Wilson’s son &045; but were not home at the time of the fire.

No other injuries were reported.
