NATCHEZ &045; As Don and Adell Green of Morgantown will tell you, they’ve already raised four children of their own.
But they’re not through yet &045; not by a long shot.
The couple are now raising five of their grandchildren: Shawn Davis, who is in the 11th grade; Davante Davis, age 11; Michael Howard, 8; Zeandre Smith, 7; and Trey Smith, who’s 1 year old.
How did they come by this detail? In various ways. They adopted Davante and have legal guardianship of Zeandre.
Michael’s mother, on the other hand, recently remarried and moved to Monroe, and Michael chose to stay in Natchez until he finishes high school.
Whatever the situation, the Greens seem happy to help raise the grandchildren that &045; as one can clearly see from their faces &045; are their pride and joy.
Getting a rest while the children play outside with their neighborhood friends, they talked about what a common scene it was &045; their grandchildren and their friends playing with a toy car and shooting hoops at their house.
&uot;We raised them respectable &045; not to curse or anything like that,&uot; Don Green said, raising his chin to emphasize the point.
But whatever the rules, both their grandchildren and the neighborhood children don’t seem to mind. Instead, they tend to flock to the house to play together as a team.
&uot; All day today, and right after their get out of school&uot; during the school year, Adell Green said of the children’s play schedule.
Outside, she held Trey by the hands as he took baby steps, holding tight to her as he practices stretching his limbs until, one day, he can join the other boys at play.
It’s a life the Greens are well familiar with, they said back in the kitchen, putting up jars of baby food they bought at the store.
&uot; We’re starting all over again,&uot; Don Green said.
