NATCHEZ — After splitting its two games at the Loyd Star Jamboree over a week ago, Cathedral’s baseball team was set to open its regular season Monday by hosting Adams County Christian School at Chester Willis Field.
But Mother Nature had other plans, and the game was canceled due to heavy rain. Cathedral head coach Craig Beesley said no make-up date has been announced.
The two teams are scheduled to take on each other today at David “Papa” New Baseball Field at ACCS if the weather permits. The junior varsity game starts at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity game will get under way at 6:30 p.m.
The inclement weather also forced Vidalia’s baseball and softball games to be postponed. The Vikings’ JV and varsity games at home against Block were rained out. Now the two teams will play on Friday, March 26, but it will be just a varsity game starting at 5:30 p.m. Also, the varsity game at home against Monterey that was originally rescheduled for Wednesday after being rained out on Feb. 22 will now take place at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10.
The Lady Vikings’ District 3-3A home varsity and JV games against Marksville will take place later on this season. Head coach Gary Paul Parnham noted that Marksville softball coach Chris Dupuy also coaches the Tigers’ boys basketball team, which is still in the Class 3A playoffs. Parnham added that the Lady Tigers and the Lady Vikings will play each other on either a Tuesday or a Friday.
Huntington’s home games against Wilkinson County Christian Academy in JV and varsity action were also canceled due to the weather, as were Centreville Academy’s JV and varsity games at Brookhaven Academy. No make-up date has been announced on those games.
