MONTEREY — The Pineville Lady Rebels hit eight doubles and got a home run from Bailey Allen as they rolled to a 9-1 win over the Monterey Lady Wolves Tuesday afternoon.
Two of those doubles were hit by Jessica Moreau, who went 3-for-5 at the plate. Allen also had three runs batted in as Class 5A Pineville finished with 18 hits in the game — 10 of them off starting pitcher Ellen Bairnsfather in the top of the first inning.
“They did a good job hitting the ball,” Monterey head coach Hazel Brallier said.
Bairnsfather lasted just one inning in this game. Eight of the nine runs she gave up were earned runs. Paige Bryan pitched the final six innings and allowed no runs on eight hits.
The Lady Wolves scored their lone run off winning pitcher Nicole Sanders in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sanders went the distance as she held Monterey to just three hits, struck out seven and walked only one batter. She helped her cause by going 2-for-5 with a double.
Monterey (9-7, 3-0) hosts Grace Christian at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Grace Christian had to forfeit its win over Monterey from two weeks ago after using an ineligible player.
