NATCHEZ — The firefighting class at the Foster Mound Volunteer Fire Department delayed in February has been rescheduled.
Adams County Fire Coordinator Stan Owens said the class was delayed due to the unexpected Feb. 20 death of volunteer firefighter Claude Ray.
“Claude was a faithful member at the Foster Mound, and his dad, Eddie Ray, is the fire chief,” Owens said. “We postponed it for a couple of weeks but it is still on and everybody is invited to come — it is free.”
Starting Monday at 6 p.m., the 12-hour course taught by Byran Cunningham, assistant instructor with the Mississippi State Fire Academy, will continue Tuesday and Thursday night.
To get credit for the class, you need to attend all three nights, Owens said.
“Each night will be different, so if you can only make one or two nights, you’ll still have some fun,” he said.
Owens said there is no need to sign up ahead of time, just show up at 6 p.m. Monday. While the class has a cap of 25, he said they would make room for any additional people.
The class will also offer four emergency medical technician hours.
“You will learn about personal protection, tying knots, raising ladders and we’ll discuss rescue,” Owens said. “It is a very interesting class.
“It is for people who are just curious too, if you want to try and understand firefighters and have some fun,” he said.
Foster Mound VFD is located at 228 Foster Mound Road near Pine Ridge.
