LIBERTY &045; Huntington’s Lady Hounds had it all figured out. There were changes in story on defense, and they took the field Tuesday hoping for better results.

They’ll try again Thursday following more changes.

Amite School Center took advantage of six Huntington errors to claim a 12-7 win Tuesday. Not only were there six errors on the Lady Hounds’ part in the six-inning game, but the errors resulted in all 12 runs being unearned.

&uot;We’re still kind of searching for the right combination,&uot; Huntington head coach Rut Horne said. &uot;They hit the ball, and then they made us pay for it. After (an error), they hit two or three singles. Hopefully we’ll see some improvements. That’s the same thing that happened against Parklane &045; we had one bad inning. But that’s mostly youth, and they’ll learn from that.&uot;

The Lady Hounds (2-3) trimmed the lead to 8-7 in the fifth thanks to a five-run inning before Amite put up four runs. The Lady Rebels got a single and a walk off Jessie Lee before the right-hander got two outs in the inning, but then a fly ball fell in in the outfield to score both runs.

Amite then got two singles to drive in two more runs for the five-run lead.

Amite led 8-2 after four before Huntington got some timely hits to get back into it. Lee, Sarah Loomis and Julie Moak each reached on singles before Grubby Harrell singled in Lee and Loomis.

Katie Moak’s flyout to center scored Julie Moak, and Lacey Willard reached on an error to score Harrell. Leslie Wagoner reached on an error to score Willard, but Wagoner was left at first when Whitney Pearson grouned out back to the mound to end the inning.

Huntington led 2-1 after one before things fell apart defensively in the second. Amite scored seven runs on four errors to take the 8-2 lead.

CENTREVILLE &045; It’s nothing to brag about the next day at school, but Centreville’s Lady Tigers are starting to make progress at the plate.

The Lady Tigers (9-5) had just six hits but took advantage of eight walks and delivered in the five-inning win. Amber Brown, Chelsea Mann and Becky Minor each came up with doubles in clutch situations.

&uot;We did put the ball in play, but we’re not hitting like we need to be hitting,&uot; CA head coach Mark Mann said. &uot;We cut down on the strikeouts some. We’re still struggling at the plate. This year we’re seeing such a variety of pitching. We’ll see low- to mid-50s, and then we’ll see someone throwing in the low 40s. We just haven’t made the adjustment from one to the other.&uot;

The Lady Tigers got some key hits in the second inning and took a 5-0 lead. Brown doubled to score Caroline Walker, and Oak Forest walked Mann and hit Haley Bowser with a pitch to load the bases.

Becky Minor was then hit by a pitch to score Brown, Walker walked to score Mann and Brown singled in Bowser and Travis.

Minor doubled in Bowser and Mann as part of a four-run third inning.

Bowser tossed a one-hitter on the mound, and the Lady Yellow Jackets got it in the fourth with a single. A walk put runners at first and second before a wild pitch allowed them to move up a bag with two outs, but Bowser got the next batter on an infield groundout to end the inning.
