FERRIDAY, La. &045; Only the second game in the season, it’s still way too early to start making predictions on how young talent will pan out.

But a 4-3 win over a good Amite School Center team? Huntington’s Lady Hounds definitely have something to build on.

They had solid pitching from Jessie Lee on the mound and used a two-out single from Grubby Harrell in their last at-bat to take the win over Amite for a 2-0 mark on the young season.

&uot;They’re a good team,&uot; Huntington head coach Rut Horne said. &uot;They lost to Hillcrest by one run, beat Parklane, beat Centreville and lost to Columbia. They didn’t have a good game that night. They’re well-coached, and Billy Jones always has a good team. They had 32 girls out, and he only brings 19 of them. Here we are with 12 kids out there.&uot;

It was enough to keep things close during the game and set the stage for Harrell’s hit in the last of the sixth. The Lady Hounds got in business when Erin Stafford reached base on an error, and Lee moved her to second on a sacrifice bunt.

Speedy Sarah Loomis singled and moved Stafford to third before Harrell drilled a 1-2 pitch to right center to score both.

The sealed the deal for Lee on the mound, who didn’t allow a walk after putting seven on courtesy of free passes Tuesday against Riverfield. Amite had seven hits, but Lee fanned four and had the curveball working well.

&uot;Jessie pitched a really good game,&uot; Horne said. &uot;She tightened up pretty good tonight. She threw a lot of strikes, which I thought she would. She just needs some experience on the mound. She did real well in the last three innings and was able to get her curveball over for strikes. That curve ball became pretty effective.&uot;

Amite took a 1-0 lead in the first before Huntington tacked on a run in the second when Lacey Willard doubled in Katie Moak.

Amite scored another in the third, but Huntington came with another in the bottom half thanks to a double steal with Harrell at first and Loomis at third.

Amite’s catcher hit the shortstop ahead of the bag at second, but Loomis beat the throw home to tie the score at 2-2.
