FERRIDAY, La. &045; You can look at the final offensive stats of one team and be quick to give credit to the other team’s pitcher.

Not in this case.

Just as much credit may go to Huntington catcher Grubby Harrell as to pitcher Jessie Lee as the Lady Hounds claimed a 9-2 win over Riverfield Tuesday. Harrell had just one passed ball, while Lee allowed only two

hits and stayed in control on the mound to give their club a much-needed win.

&uot;(Lee) threw extremely well and had good control of her pitches today,&uot; Huntington head coach Rut Horne said. &uot;I’ll tell you how good the game was &045; our catcher had just one passed ball, and that’s a big improvement. That’s a combination of better pitching and better catching. When you hold it down to one, you’ve made big progress. It looks like we’ve settled down defensively at who needs to play what.&uot;

It was enough for the Lady Hounds (3-5), who got two quick runs in the first inning and later added five in the third for a comfortable lead. Lee and speedy Sarah Loomis &045; the top two hitters in the lineup &045; sparked rallies in each inning as their club took a 7-1 lead after three.

Both Lee and Loomis reached base and came around to score to spark the rallies.

&uot;If we can just get one hit out of the next three batters, we’ll score two runs off it,&uot; Horne said. &uot;They got on base yesterday (against Centreville), but we hit into the double play. Today they set the tables twice for us. That makes a big inning when they can do that.&uot;

Lee led off the first with a walk, and Loomis followed with a bunt single that moved Lee to third. Loomis then stole second, and Harrell’s single up the middle scored them both for a 2-0 lead.

In the third, Lee singled to lead off before Loomis was hit by a pitch. Both moved up a bag on a double steal, and Julie Moak’s single scored both for a 4-1 lead. Harrell then singled to score Julie Moak, Katie Moak reached on an error, Lacy Willard was hit by a pitch and Leslie Wagoner singled in Katie Moak and Harrell.

Silliman 6, Centreville 3

CENTREVILLE &045; The Centreville bats may still be inconsistent, but sometimes the opposing pitcher has something to do with it.

Silliman hurler Taylor Tynes fanned 10 in the six-inning contest despite scattering seven hits to help the Lady Wildcats claim the win. The Lady Tigers (12-9) couldn’t mount a rally until the sixth when they trailed 6-0 but got four straight singles to at least cut the lead in half.

&uot;The first few innings we didn’t do anything,&uot; CA head coach Mark Mann said. &uot;We tired to put the ball in play, got behind in the count and she threw her change a little bit. It was pretty effective to some hitters. We just haven’t been putting the ball in play a whole lot. But credit good pitching. She hits her spots real well.&uot;

Silliman scored four in the first inning to take the quick lead as the Lady Tigers gave up two runs on passed balls. Silliman added two more in the third.

In the sixth, Amber Addington singled, Amber Brown singled, Courtney Travis singled in Addington and Caroline Walker singled in Brown. A throwing error on Walker’s single scored Travis.
