VIDALIA — Services for Morris R. “Sport” Lee, 94, of Ferriday, who died Friday, March 9, 2012, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Stephen Baptist Church in Vidalia with the Rev. Willie Birdon officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Lee was born Sept. 22, 1917, in Vidalia, the last of 12 children of General and Caroline Lee.
Mr. Lee was a graduate of Concordia Parish Training School of Vidalia and Southern University in Baton Rouge. He was a retired educator and supervisor for Concordia Parish School System. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from July 1942 to November 1945 and was honorably discharged holding the entitled rank of sergeant.
Mr. Lee was baptized in 1933, and was a member of the St. Stephen Baptist Church. He served as deacon for 45 years and was a dedicated Sunday school teacher, church treasurer and youth choir sponsor. He was also an elected member of the Concordia Parish School Board.
Mr. Lee was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ellen D. Lee; and one stepdaughter, Gloria Hossack.
Survivors include his devoted nephew, Dr. Harold Davis of Oakland, Calif.; one son, Bernard Lee of California; one step-granddaughter, Carla Hossack and her four sons of Natchez; a devoted cousin, Melvin Cooper of Vidalia; and a number of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins, former students and friends.
