BROOKHAVEN — After a tough first inning, Brookhaven Academy’s Christian Keene settled down and allowed just two runs over the final six innings as the Cougars defeated the Trinity Episcopal Saints 13-7 Thursday night.

Keene gave up five runs to Trinity Episcopal in the top of the first inning, but he was bailed out when Brookhaven Academy answered with five runs of its own in the bottom of the first off Givonni Dent.

The Saints would not score another run off Keene until the top of the fourth. By then, however, the Cougars had an 8-5 lead. The Cougars then scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to make in an 11-6 game. They added two runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 13-6 lead.

Trinity Episcopal (1-3) scored its final run of the game in the top of the sixth. Jake Winston went 3-for-4 with a double, Dent was 2-for-5 and Sky Logan had a double. The Saints had 11 hits in the game.

Keene led the Cougars’ 14-hit attack by going 3-for-4 with two doubles and Dan Coleman was 3-for-4 with a double.

The Saints will take on Prairie View Academy at Huntington’s field today at 3 p.m.

Centreville Academy 14, Parklane 3 (5 innings)

MCCOMB — Winning pitcher Cliff Hurst hit a key grand slam home run during Centreville Academy’s 12-run rally in the top of the fifth inning as the Tigers defeated the Parklane Academy Pioneers Thursday night.

The game was played at Southwest Mississippi Community College.

This was a close, back-and-forth game between the two teams and the score was tied at 2-2 going into the top of the fifth. That’s when Centreville (4-0) blew the game wide open and eventually 10-run ruled Parklane, holding the Pioneers to one run in the bottom of the fifth.

Hurst gave up six hits, struck out two and walked three. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Despite being the losing pitcher, Smith (no first name given) was the lone bright spot for Parklane at the plate as he had three hits, including a double.
