NATCHEZ — Services for Joseph “Ned” Burkhart, 76, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Smithland Baptist Church with the Rev. Samuel Hunt officiating.

Burial will follow at Gospel Temple Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Burkhart was born Oct. 1, 1935, in Natchez, the son of Otis and Lela Burkhart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Otis Burkhart Jr. and Johnny Burkhart; two sons, Lugusta Burkhart and David Hoskins; and one grandchild, Je’Keius Foster.

Survivors include a devoted companion, Ella “Rosie Lee” Edwards; four daughters, Kitty Seward and husband, Vernon, Yolanda Foster, Angela Ivory and husband, Robert, and Athena Floyd; one son, Andrew Cain; three sisters, Mary Lena James, Geraldine Geyen and Tammy Hamilton and husband, Tommie; one brother, Mark Gibson and wife, Althea; one aunt, Katie Mason; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister-in-law, Hattie Burkhart; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, family and friends.
