NATCHEZ — More rain means more rainouts — and not just in Mississippi and Louisiana, but on the Alabama Gulf Coast as well.

That’s what local and area high school baseball and fast-pitch softball teams had to deal with after the latest bout of heavy rain moved through the three-state region Sunday and part of Monday.

Cathedral baseball

The Cathedral Green Wave was scheduled to travel all the way to Belden to take on the Tupelo Christian Eagles Monday night. Instead, the varsity game was rained out and head coach Craig Beesley said it will not be rescheduled.

Cathedral next plays at Monterey for a varsity tilt today at 4 p.m. There will be no junior varsity game between the two teams.

Cathedral softball

The Lady Green Wave’s games against Hillcrest (Ala.) and Sumrall Monday afternoon at the Gulf Shores Tournament in Gulf Shores, Ala., were also done in by the inclement weather. They will play Hillcrest (Ala.) today at 12:30 p.m. and that will be followed their game against Sumrall at 2 p.m.

Vidalia softball and baseball

VIDALIA — The Vidalia Lady Vikings’ LHSAA District 3-3A home games Monday afternoon against Jena were rained out, and that means there is now a unique twist to today’s scheduled games. Vidalia’s JV team will play host to Natchez High’s JV squad at 4 p.m. and then the Lady Vikings’ varsity team takes on the Jena Lady Giants at 5:30 p.m.

The Vidalia baseball team was set to host Dehli at 4 p.m. Monday, but the game was rescheduled to 4 p.m. today.

Centreville Academy baseball

CENTREVILLE — The Centreville Academy Tigers were supposed to travel to Liberty to take on the Amite School Center for JV and varsity action Monday afternoon, but those games were rained out. Centreville head coach Jason Horne said he doesn’t know when or if those games will be rescheduled.

The defending MAIS Class AA state champion Tigers begin District 6-AA play today when they host Oak Forest Academy with the JV game starting at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity game beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Block softball

JONESVILLE — The Block Lady Bears’ LHSAA District 4-1A opener will have to wait a few days due to the bad weather after their game at LaSalle Monday afternoon was rained out. Head coach Robert Swayze said for now the game is rescheduled for Tuesday, March 27 at 4 p.m., but it could be moved to another date.

Block’s next game will be at Montgomery on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Tensas Academy baseball

ST. JOSEPH, La. — Tensas Academy’s home game against the Riverfield Academy Raiders Monday afternoon was also a victim of the inclement weather. Chiefs head coach Curt Leake said the game will not be rescheduled.

Next up for Tensas Academy is a varsity doubleheader at Prairie View Academy Thursday with the first game starting at 2 p.m.
