FERRIDAY, La. &045; Shelters across the Miss-Lou need help.
Officials at shelters in Natchez, Vidalia and Ferriday all said they need more volunteers to help man shelters for the next few days and weeks until evacuees can leave.
&uot;We could use about 50 more volunteers,&uot; Morris White, at the Concordia Parish Community Center, said. &uot;The ones I have now are burning out. If I could get a number of them so I could space them out it would be good.&uot;
Many volunteers have been working long hours since Sunday and need help to keep local shelters running, officials from the Red Cross said.
To volunteer please contact the United Way of the Miss-Lou at 601-442-1081 first. The United Way will coordinate volunteer shifts at all local shelters.
Volunteers are needed to sort items, spend time with evacuees and organize games with children.
