Driver, toddler in wreck taken to UMC

MEADVILLE &045; The driver of a vehicle and her 2-year-old son involved in a serious accident on U.S. 84 Saturday have been transferred to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, according Franklin County Sheriff James Newman.

No further information was available as of Monday afternoon on the conditions of Ashley Cupit or her son, whose name was unavailable from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Rod Crawford couldn’t be reached for comment late Monday afternoon.

Cupit’s vehicle ran off the rain-slick highway near its intersection with Mississippi 33 and hit a tree.

Local firefighters had to remove Cupit and her child with the Jaws of Life, Newman said.

They were transported to Natchez Regional Medical Center, then to UMC.
