VIDALIA — Funeral services for Wardy L. “Monty” Daniels, 69, of Vidalia, who died Thursday, March 8, 2012, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Vidalia with the Rev. Bill McCullin officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Vidalia.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Young’s Funeral Home in Vidalia.
Mr. Daniels was born April 11, 1942, in Woodville, the son of Marie English Daniels of Rienzi, and Wardy Daniels of Sharp, La. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Hawaii and Vietnam. He married Kathryn Elaine Merritt on Christmas Eve of 1966. They made their home in Mississippi and Louisiana. He retired from Canadian National Railroad and then worked with his wife in the family business, Daniels’ Basketry, on Main Street in Natchez. As an adult he met his savior, Jesus Christ, and became a new man.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Celia Lou Daniels; his father-in-law, Delcy R. Merritt Sr., and one nephew, Stan Bland.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Clinton L. Daniels; one daughter, Peggy L. Daniels; his mother-in-law, Dulcie Ruth Merritt; four grandchildren, Justin, Joshua, Amanda and Eva Daniels; two sisters, Janice Allen and Ruby Daniels; one brother, James Mark Daniels; a number of beloved sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and their offspring, and many friends.
Pallbearers will be Bill Sandifer, Brandon Davidson, Clare Shields, Frank Vest, Richard Walker, Russ Walker, Stan Davidson and Troy Orr.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, nephews and brothers-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one of his favorite charities, American Family Radio, Relay for Life or First Baptist Church, Vidalia.
