VIDALIA, La. &8212; As the old saying goes, the show must go on.

That&8217;s certainly the motto of the Vidalia Chamber of Commerce&8217;s Jim Bowie Festival Committee, which on Saturday held the musical portion of the annual festival that, due to two hurricanes, didn&8217;t go on in late September as planned.

The concert, held at Vidalia&8217;s riverfront amphitheater and dubbed &8220;Bowie Lite, Take 3,&8221; featured a nighttime performance by country star Ty Herndon and five other local and regional musical acts.

Herndon&8217;s hits include &8220;What Mattered Most,&8221; &8220;Living in a Moment,&8221; &8220;Steam&8221; and &8220;A Man Holdin&8217; On (To a Woman Lettin&8217; Go),&8221; with the first two hitting No. 1 on the country charts.

Herndon&8217;s other contribution to the event was a painting that was auctioned off, with proceeds going to help hurricane relief efforts.

Other musical acts included The Chosen, Back Roads, Marada, Shane Ward & Company and Bernie Alan & Knight Train.

What made it so important for the show to go on &8212; in addition to the festival itself being a fall tradition for several years &8212; was that several sponsors had already told the Chamber of Commerce to keep the money they had originally put up for the festival.

So the chamber wanted to do something in return, said chamber President Sheri Rabb. &8220;The proceeds are going to the operating expenses of the chamber,&8221; Rabb said. The chamber itself puts on many events year-round and acts as an advocate for the community&8217;s businesses.

Rabb included a special &8220;thank you&8221; to all the event&8217;s sponsors, the Bowie Festival Committee and the Town of Vidalia, which contributed the time and manpower necessary to set up equipment for the concert.

&8220;To come up with this in just two weeks&8217; time&8221; took a lot of help, Rabb said.
