FERRIDAY — After a seven-run second inning proved too much for Trinity Episcopal to overcome in Game 1, the Saints never got a chance to split a doubleheader against River Oaks Academy Thursday night.
Saints starter Caleb Gillespie took the loss as Trinity fell 7-3 in Game 1, but the Saints had runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom of the first in Game 2. Gillespie was up to bat, but the weather had other ideas, as lightning forced the came to be canceled before Gillespie had a chance to possibly drive in a run or two.
In Game 1, Gillespie struggled the first two innings before settling down in the final three. He gave up seven runs, five earned, in the second inning, and finished the game with three walks, six hits allowed and nine strikeouts.
Gillespie had a strong night at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double. Trinity’s Quinton Logan also went 2-for-3 for the Saints.
Trinity (0-1) will not make up the second game with River Oaks. The Saints play a doubleheader next at 2 and 4 p.m. on Saturday at CENLA Christian Academy.
