NATCHEZ &8212; One look at the Cathedral School&8217;s cafeteria Sunday afternoon confirmed it &8212; many Green Wave supporters spell fun B-I-N-G-O.

The bingo games are one of the most popular attractions at one of the school&8217;s biggest annual fund-raisers.

&8220;It&8217;s the bingo,&8221; Tia Ferguson, of Huntsville, Ala., said when asked what the main attraction of the festival was for her. That, and the opportunity to visit her husband&8217;s old school and some of the locals.

At least a couple of hundred people, from preschoolers to 80-somethings, packed the long tables, some playing up to three bingo cards at a time.

Locals plan in advance to clear an afternoon to play the game, some of whom aren&8217;t even affiliated with the school, just to vent their competitive spirit and get a chance at a variety of prizes.

On Sunday, those prizes ranged from potted plants to holiday-themed gift baskets to cash prizes.

A young student studied her card, the tip of her tongue escaping the edge of her mouth. Down a couple of seats, an older woman sat with three cards, studying them with the same intensity some exhibit defusing bombs. As soon as somebody held up a card in victory, however, the tension evaporated into friendly conversation &8212; and dollar bills held up for more cards.

Not all of the festival &8212;held on a Saturday and Sunday &8212; is so exacting, however. The younger set, especially, also love the rides and the opportunity to win prizes and even help the adults out with some of their festival tasks.

Abigail Hand, 5, liked helping with the cake walk along with her 8-year-old brother Trey, also a Cathedral student, who said he &8220;liked the water balloon throw and the cake walk best.&8221;

But then it was back to watching the cards for both of them. Because although the Cathedral Fall Festival has a lot to offer, many spelled the main attraction B-I-N-G-O.
