FERRIDAY &8212; An argument about a car apparently led to the fatal shooting of a Ferriday man early Saturday morning, authorities said later that day.
Ferriday police say Lamont T. Henderson, 33, of 4308 General Pershing St. in New Orleans, shot Kirby Rosenthal once in the chest with a 9 mm pistol at Kyle Road Apartments, where Rosenthal was a resident.
Henderson was booked at the Concordia Parish Jail later Saturday on charges of first-degree murder and illegal discharging of a weapon. He was being held without bond as of press time.
According to witnesses, Henderson and Rosenthal were allegedly arguing about a car Henderson had recently leased when the argument started, Ferriday police Investigator Richard Madison said.
&8220;We don&8217;t have all the details. But apparently, Henderson first pulled the weapon out of his car and hit Rosenthal on the head with it,&8221; Madison said.
The argument continued on the balcony of one of the apartments at the complex.
&8220;People said they heard multiple shots,&8221; Madison said. &8220;They were trying to revive (Rosenthal) when emergency services (personnel) came.&8221;
Rosenthal was pronounced dead at the scene after the shooting, which Madison said happened just before 5 a.m. Saturday. Henderson then turned himself in at the Ferriday police station on E.E. Wallace Boulevard about one hour later. Madison said Henderson didn&8217;t drive the car away from the scene after the shooting, and it wasn&8217;t clear how he got to the police station.
Madison said Henderson and Rosenthal were close friends prior to the argument but had been drinking at a lounge in Vidalia before the incident started.
The case was still under investigation as of press time Saturday night.
