VIDALIA &8212; The Cencap building looks a little different than when Richard Campbell worked here.

Campbell, whose oil and energy company, R.A. Campbell Co., was once in the building,

also founded Delta Bank which uses the building to house some of its offices now, Delta Bank President Cliff Merritt said.

And Delta needed to change a few things to make the building more modern and have more space, Merritt said.

&8220;You use a building as long as you can and then it&8217;s time to do something about it,&8221; Merritt said. &8220;We had to build more office space to take care of our customers.&8221;

For the Cencap building, that meant some changes to the roof and the internal layout.

&8220;It had that old flat roof style that was common in Vidalia and we put a pitched metal roof on it,&8221; Merritt said. &8220;The building also had a inner courtyard originally that we took out to put in more offices.&8221;

Originally built in the late 1950s, the building has been in use by Delta since its founding by Campbell in 1973.

Campbell&8217;s son Brian is chairman of the bank. The building houses the Central Louisiana Capital Corporation, Delta&8217;s capital company, from which it draws its name.

It also has some of Delta&8217;s departments, including the data processing division and loan processing, Merritt said.

The renovation is just one of several recent building projects for Delta, Merritt said, including work on Delta&8217;s headquarters in Vidalia.

&8220;We have that, we put up the new branch here in Vidalia and, though most people around here don&8217;t know about it, we put some new offices in Tallulah too,&8221; Merritt said.
