Contrary to what some may think or have been led to believe, high-quality classical musical performances do not just happen in May.

The bringing into our city music students and rising stars of tomorrow to perform during the month of May is a wonderful thing for our community and provides not only many opportunities to hear live music-making, but also gives the students the opportunity to perform and be heard as well.

But, the opportunity to hear live classical music performed is available to us throughout the year in Natchez through the efforts of local professional musicians right here. Yes, you read correctly — we have many gifted, classically trained professional musicians right here in our little river town — truly these are hidden treasures.

At noon today at Trinity Episcopal Church in downtown Natchez, a series of three chamber music concerts will begin. These concerts are free, open to the public and feature local and regional artists.

The series is being called, “Two, Three, Four,” which denotes the instrument configuration for the three concerts: Duet, Trio, Quartet.

The first concert will feature a duo recital of music for flute and piano, with beautiful music by Gabriel Fauré, J.S. Bach, Philippe Gaubert, Benjamin Godard and Joachim Andersen.

The artists will be Vincent Bache, OSB, flute, and Dr. Bernardo Scarambone, piano.

The next concert on Friday, March 19 will feature trios for flute, violin, and harpsichord by J.S. Bach, and the final concert in the series on March 26 will feature a variety of music for string quartet.

High-quality, concert hall level performance of classical music is something we are blessed to have available to us in this area, and Trinity Church is an ideal venue both aesthetically and acoustically for chamber music performances.

Through the generous support of Trinity Episcopal Church, these and other classical music performances are made possible throughout the year free of charge.

I encourage everyone who loves classical music to come and enjoy this wonderful series of concerts — they each will last only 25-30 minutes — perfect for a lunch hour, and if you have the time you can stay after the concert for a light lunch in the Parish Hall, prepared by the Episcopal Church Women.
