NATCHEZ — Despite a win against WCCA Thursday, ACCS head coach Hunter McKievier said he was not pleased with his team’s at-bats.

The Rebels shut out WCCA 5-0 behind a strong performance by pitcher Jake Brumfield. Christopher Perry was the only player with multiple hits for the Rebels, going 2-for-2 at the plate.

“Our approach at the plate was not very good,” McKievier said. “Perry had a good night, but in general, as a team I was very in how we swung the bats. (WCCA pitcher) Sutton (Olive) is a very fine pitcher, so I give him all the credit, but we swung at a lot of pitches that weren’t strikes.

“Hitting is something we work on a tremendous amount of time, and I was not pleased with how we swung the bats tonight.”

As for Brumfield, McKievier said his ace fell behind in the first few innings, but improved the more pitches he threw.

“He got better as the game got going. He gave up a couple of hits, but we played good defense behind him and we were able to make some plays. The first couple of innings he was throwing well, but he was just missing his spots.”

With the win, ACCS (6-3) will travel to WCCA today for a doubleheader, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

“This was our first district game, so it was nice to get the ‘W’ to get the district year started, but we have to come out the rest of these five weeks ready to play,” McKievier said.
