The last week was full of bright futures and great news for area residents.

Let’s recap a bit.

– Six area students were honored as good citizens by the local Daughter’s of the American Revolution chapters. The honorees were Kevin Campbell, Daniel Dunaway, Marty Ellard, Jocelyn Minor, Debra Whitley and Cal Wilkerson. Congratulations to the winners.

– Campbell had a big week and received top honors as a scholar athlete Thursday night at the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame banquet. Several other area athletes also received honors.

– Construction at the Central Louisiana Technical College Shelby M. Jackson Ferriday Campus is nearing completion. It’s great to see this community partner growing.

– Crowds enjoyed multiple rounds of storytelling late this week and into the weekend at the Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration. The event was a success, and we thank all those who made it a reality.

– Concordia Parish fifth-grade students celebrated their graduations from the D.A.R.E. program. We are happy the local sheriff and schools have partnered to give kids the knowledge they need to stay away from drugs.

– Katlyn Freeman is feeling a bit more light and airy these days, thanks to a significant hair cut last week. The 16-year-old has been growing out her hair for months in order to donate it to Locks of Love. We are proud to see area young people willing to help out those they may not even know.

As we approach the final days of February, we can’t help be thankful for the local residents — young and old — who make our community great.
