NATCHEZ — Current Trinity Episcopal School athletic director David King will take over as headmaster and head football coach for Adams County Christian School beginning June 1, ACCS school board president Scott Galbreath III said.
“I’m proud to announce that David will return to his alma mater next year,” Galbreath said. “We’re all really excited to have David come on board, and we are backing him 100 percent. We talked to the faculty with the school and they are equally excited.”
Galbreath said King’s hiring became official Tuesday, and King has signed his contract with ACCS.
ACCS interviewed several candidates but decided that King was the best fit both academically and athletically, Galbreath said.
“We interviewed many people, and David just has a vision of excellence in the classroom for all of our students,” Galbreath said. “He convinced us that he will work hard and that all students will excel in life — in college and the workforce. He was real impressive. David has Adams Christian at heart.”
Galbreath said ACCS interviewed candidates for approximately six weeks before deciding to hire King.
King will replace current headmaster William “Buddy” Wade, who is retiring at the end of the school year.
“We’re really going to miss coach Wade,” Galbreath said. “He’s a fine man and has done an excellent job at Adams Christian.”
Trinity assistant football coach and girls’ basketball coach Richy Spears was also hired by ACCS to coach basketball and assist with football and baseball, Galbreath said.
Galbreath said King would handle any other possible changes in the ACCS coaching staff after he takes over in June.
Galbreath said he expects Hunter McKeivier, who was ACCS’s head football coach last season, to continue to coach the baseball team next season.
