FAYETTE — A Jefferson County woman was killed in a traffic incident Sunday.

Kiara L. Short, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene of the two-vehicle crash, which happened on the northbound side of U.S. 61 at Sunnyside Drive, North of Fayette. She was wearing a seat belt.

Sgt. Rusty Boyd, public affairs officer for Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop M, said the MHP responded to the crash at 1:14 p.m. Sunday.

Short was driving a 1998 Buick Sentry westbound on Sunnyside drive when she apparently failed to yield, crossing over U.S. 61 into the path of a northbound 1998 Ford F-150 driven by Benjamin Cavin Skidmore, 18, of Natchez, Boyd said.

Skidmore reportedly had a complaint of pain but refused treatment, Boyd said.

Skidmore was also wearing a seat belt.
