If you ever have a craving for a true slice of American pie, you can find it every second Saturday of every month at the Big River Jamboree.

For the past 13 years, the Natchez Shrine Club on Morgantown Road has hosted the jamboree which offers live gospel music from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and live country music provided by the Surefire Band from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The cost is $4 for a single person, $6 a couple and children 12 years old and younger are free.

“It’s something for the community,” Shrine Club President Jack Cupit said.

The event is smoke and alcohol free, which is a draw for many people and their families.

“It’s a good, family place,” Vidalia resident Deloris Johnson said.

Johnson and her husband Leon have been attending the event for eight years, and in recent years their children and grandchildren have come with them.

“I like the music,” Johnson said. “This is where we come to dance.”

On top of being a great event for people to bring their families and listen to music, the jamboree also serves as a fundraiser for the Shrine Club. Proceeds from the jamboree are split between the band, operating costs for the event, and the largest portion of the proceeds go to the Shriners Hospital for children.

“We do this for those children,” Cupit said.
