NATCHEZ &8212; It took more than 2 1/2 hours to finally determine a winner between the North Pike Lady Jaguars and the Cathedral Lady Green Wave Friday night at D&8217;Evereux Stadium in a key Division 7 game for both teams.

After two 10-minute overtimes and a shootout couldn&8217;t settle things, Nicole Hamilton made her kick for North Pike and Cathedral&8217;s Jennifer Bernard missed the kick that would have extended the sudden death period as the Lady Jaguars escaped with a 2-1 win.

&8220;A disappointing loss,&8221; Lady Green Wave head coach David Gaud/ said. &8220;It was a good game. We fought all the way to the end.&8221;

It took less than 14 minutes in the first half for the score to reach 1-1.

The Lady Jaguars scored less than three minutes into the game when Kayla Stockton got a loose ball, got past two defenders and her kick when past Cathedral goalkeeper Abby Brown, bounced off the post on the right side and into the goal give North Pike a 1-0 lead.

Cathedral scored nearly 10 and a half minutes later when Kalin Kirkwood received a pass from Dani Roberts and kicked it off North Pike goalkeeper Kaitlyn Perry&8217;s fingertips and into the left side of the goal for a 1-1 tie.

That was the only mistake either goalkeeper had in regulation.

&8220;We struggled at the beginning of the year,&8221; North Pike head coach Wes McCullough said. &8220;This was a big win for us. Cathedral and us had the same division record at 2-1. We&8217;re still struggling on offense.&8221;

Brown made several key saves, especially in the second half as North Pike was more aggressive with its offense despite having the same number of shots on goal it had in the first half.

&8220;My goalkeeper (Brown) had a heck of a game,&8221; Gaud/ said. &8220;She made several good saves. Their goalkeeper played a good game. We couldn&8217;t keep it out of the middle. Their girls played good, too.&8221;

Perry made a couple of great diving saves in the first half to keep Cathedral from taking the lead at halftime and made several key saves in the second half.

&8220;She&8217;s awesome,&8221; McCullough said. &8220;She&8217;s been at the goal for four games. She&8217;s been outstanding.&8221;

Both teams also had several scoring opportunities slip away whether it be by shots just going outside the goal, passes that were just off the mark, or just good defense.

After neither team scored in the two 10-minute overtimes, the game went to a shootout. Both teams made three shots in the shootout, but none was bigger than that of Megan Whittington, whose penalty kick sent the game into sudden death.

Kristina Brumfield appeared to give Cathedral an advantage when she made her penalty kick, but Sagan King, North Pike&8217;s second choice, made her kick to tie the shootout at 1-1. North Pike&8217;s Leonna Ballard and Cathedral&8217;s Kate Ellard, who was playing with an injured hamstring, both made their kicks to make it 2-2. Donovan Glover, North Pike&8217;s fifth choice, made her kick before Whittington forced sudden death.
