SICILY ISLAND &8212; With Jasmine Upchurch in foul trouble, senior guards Kiawana McDowell and Jameca Garrison provided a huge lift offensively for Ferriday in the second half as the Lady Trojans defeated the French Settlement Lady Lions 55-44 in the girls championship game of the Sicily Island Tournament.
&8220;We were excited to win,&8221; Lady Trojans head coach Lisa Abron said. &8220;I give credit to my girls. They worked hard. Now we try to get ready for district.&8221;
The Lady Trojans added this latest trophy to the ones they won at the Vidalia, Block and Ferriday tournaments. And at 16-1, they could be collecting a few more trophies late in the season.
Ferriday jumped on French Settlement, which was lacking an inside presence, throughout the first half. The Lady Trojans led 17-7 after one quarter of play and 32-15 at halftime.
&8220;The first half we did a good job,&8221; Abron said. &8220;The third quarter, they got fatigued. This was our second game of the day.&8221;
It also didn&8217;t help that Upchurch picked up her fourth foul early in the third quarter and had to sit on the bench for much of that quarter. While Upchurch ended up with just six points, McDowell and Garrison made sure Ferriday would not lose.
McDowell led the Lady Trojans with a game-high 15 points and Garrison had 14 points.
&8220;The guards stepped up tonight,&8221; Abron said. &8220;Kiawana and Jameca kept the offense going while Jasmine was out of the game.&8221;
French Settlement (17-8) got its offense going in the second half, but the 17-point halftime deficit was too big to overcome.
&8220;They didn&8217;t have a strong inside game, but their outside game was good,&8221; Abron said about the Lady Lions. &8220;They knew how to get open shots.&8221;
Natalie Rich led French Settlement with 13 points and Natalie Piper had 12 points.
The combination of Upchurch, a 6-2 freshman center, and Garrison helped the Ferriday Lady Trojans defeat the Harrisonburg Lady Bulldogs 51-41 in the semifinals of the Sicily Island Tournament Friday afternoon.
John F. Kennedy 53, Natchez 50
GREENVILLE &8212; T. Brown scored 11 points for the Lady Hornets from Mound Bayou and hit a big three-pointer with seven seconds left that gave them a three-point lead.
Natchez High (5-8), which outscored John F. Kennedy High 15-8 in the fourth quarter, had one last opportunity to send the game into overtime with a three of its own in the girls championship game of the O&8217;Bannon Holiday Tournament, but the shot went in and out and the Lady Bulldogs suffered a heartbreaking loss.
John F. Kennedy High jumped out to an 18-9 lead after one quarter of play, but the resilient Lady Bulldogs answered with a 17-9 advantage in the second quarter and trailed by just one at halftime.
A. White led the Lady Hornets with 17 points. Ashley Morrison led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points.
Monterey 54, LaSalle 48
OLLA, La. &8212; The Lady Tigers not only hung tough with the Lady Wolves, who were playing their first game in just over two weeks. They had a 22-18 lead at halftime.
But Monterey shook off the holiday rust and outscored LaSalle 19-7 in the third quarter and held on to take the six-point win. Brittany Woodruff led the Lady Wolves with 20 points and Lakasha Finley had 14 points.
Oak Forest 62, WCCA 34
WOODVILLE &8212; The Lady Jackets (10-3) set the tone in the first half with a 17-6 lead after one and a 28-11 lead at halftime before leading 45-21 after three.

Brittany Boatner led CA with 16. Kallie Pittman led Ben&8217;s Ford with 12.
Tensas Academy 49, Amite 31
WOODVILLE &8212; Still without Tabitha Howard, the Lady Chiefs had better results on the offensive end thanks to a 16-7 edge in the second and a 10-4 edge in the third to lead 35-18 heading into the fourth.
Megan Bauerle led Tensas with 15 points. Brittany Harden led Amite with 12.
