NATCHEZ &8212; Shelby Guice simply nodded when asked if she was nervous.

Who could blame her? After all, Guice and older sister Stephanie practiced with the Natchez soccer team for the first time

Monday &8212; after moving to Natchez from Corpus Christi, Texas in December &8212; and both started Tuesday&8217;s Division 6-5A game against Jim Hill.

&8220;I just followed what the other girls were doing, and I asked a lot of questions,&8221; Shelby Guice said.

She must have listened well.

Shelby Guice, a seventh-grader, contributed two goals and an assist in her Natchez debut as the Lady Bulldogs earned a 6-0 victory.

&8220;Our two new girls are going to work out,&8221; Natchez coach Lena Yarbrough said. &8220;They only had one day of practice, and Shelby got two goals.&8221;

Yarbrough said her team scrimmaged against the Natchez boys&8217; team on Monday, which gave her an opportunity to see the Guice sisters in action.

&8220;They had played in Texas,&8221; Yarbrough said. &8220;We scrimmaged against the boys, which is always good because they&8217;re so physical. I was able to see what they could do.

&8220;No, I wasn&8217;t nervous (about starting them). We only had 12 players today, so we just had the one sub. I was confident they would be an asset to our team.&8221;

The Lady Bulldogs played without Jessica Evans, Cacey Champlain and Angel Sproulls. Evans may miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury.

Without those three players missing, the Guice sisters delivered when they were so desperately needed.

&8220;Shelby played great and really stepped up for us,&8221; Natchez sophomore Britton Hinson said.

The victory clinches the division title for Natchez, a feat that Yarbrough said she believes is the first for the school&8217;s girls soccer program.

Natchez dominated Tuesday&8217;s game, outshooting the Tigers 26-6 thanks to strong play by Jadtryl Heard, Chioma Udomgba, Hinson and Sarah Waldrop.

Jim Hill controlled the game&8217;s opening 20 minutes, but Yarbrough made a change to her defense &8212; staggering her defenders &8212; to neutralize the Tigers&8217; attack. Jim Hill never adapted to the change.

Heard scored the game&8217;s first goal with 7:51 to play.
