NATCHEZ &8212; Senators representing Adams County introduced a bill Tuesday to provide $15 million in bonds to help finance the Rentech project.
Sen. Bob M. Dearing, D-Natchez, and Sen. Kelvin Johnson, D-Magnolia, who represents a portion of Adams County, filed Senate Bill 3001, Dearing said.
&8220;The Natchez delegation that met with the House also met with Sen. Tommy Robertson, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee,&8221; Dearing said.
&8220;Darryl Grennell made an excellent presentation,&8221; Dearing said of the president of the Adams County Board of Supervisors.
&8220;And Tommy said, &8216;if everything you&8217;re telling me is correct, I don&8217;t see a problem.&8217;&8221;
Robertson takes positive positions on projects that create jobs, Dearing said. &8220;If it creates jobs, he&8217;s going to look at it carefully.&8221;
The Senate bill &8220;tracks the same language as the House bill (HB 1524),&8221; Dearing said. The bills would provide state money to Rentech, a Colorado-based company that wants to build a plant to produce fuel from coal and petroleum coke on the old Belwood Country Club site.
The bill requires Rentech to invest at least $800 million in the Natchez plant, excluding money from the state, and create at least 200 jobs with an average $45,000 annual salary.
