FERRIDAY — Today is the last day to complete early voting in the Ferriday sales tax renewal election.
Early voting can be completed at the Concordia Parish Registrar of Voter’s office in the new courthouse in Vidalia.
Voting will be between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The .75 percent sales tax up for renewal was first passed 10 years ago.
The funds generated by the tax are directed to the town general fund for operational expenses.
Renewing the tax, which generates approximately $400,000 a year, will keep the town’s sales tax rate at 8.75 percent.
The election for which the early voting is being conducted will be March 27, and voting will at that time be conducted at local precincts, the Ferriday health unit, Town Hall and Ferriday High School.
Unlike absentee voting, early voters do not have to have a reason for casting their ballot early — all they have to do is show up and vote.
In Louisiana, voters are required to identity themselves with a signed voter affidavit or to present a photo ID when they cast their ballot.
A Louisiana driver’s license, Special ID or other generally recognized picture ID with the voter’s name and signature are acceptable forms of identification.
For more information about voting, contact the Registrar of Voter’s office at 318-336-7770.
