NATCHEZ — Lester Wells’ goal with 6:30 left and several late scoring opportunities were not enough to push the Adams County Christian School soccer team to a come-from-behind win Wednesday night.

The Rebels fell behind 3-0 to Chamberlain-Hunt before ACCS’ Justin Allgood found the back of the net to give the Rebels some life.

But Chamberlain-Hunt answered to make the score 4-1 late in the contest, and the Rebels comeback fell short as they lost 4-2.

“We busted it about the first 15 minutes (of the game),” ACCS head coach Jim Allgood said. “Then it dropped off. Our aggression level went way down.”

Allgood said the lack of aggressiveness could have been due to a long layoff.

“Maybe it was because we hadn’t played in a little bit,” he said. “Because once they got up 3-0 then we started fighting back.”

It was senior night for the Rebels, and Allgood recognized five senior players for their efforts in a ceremony before the game started.

“This senior class is a mix of a lot of experience and some new (players),” Allgood said. “In one season to get them to gel is hard, but it’s gone good so far.”

Chamberlain-Hunt opened the scoring 10 minutes into the opening half when Joseph Proper found the back of the net against the Rebels.

Both teams were able to keep the ball out of the net for the remainder of the half, but ACCS ended the half with three more scoring chances than Chamberlain-Hunt.

The Wildcats pushed their advantage to three with two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Josh Easton scored 10 minutes in, and Blake Hobbs added a goal approximately 15 minutes into the half.

Allgood scored his goal before Hobbs netted his second tally of the contest with 15 minutes to go in the game.

Wells late goal gave the Rebels a spark, and they were able to generate some chances off corner kicks late in the game but were unable to close the gap.

The Rebels finished their regular season at 6-4 in MAIS Division II South and tied for second place with Oak Forest. They will play their first-round playoff game on the road Monday. Allgood said the team’s opponent has not yet been determined.
