Finally, a compromise. After weeks of disagreement and controversy over what a proposed condo development on the bluff should look like, a group of stakeholders in the project met with architects and designers Monday and Tuesday to come up with a new conceptual design for the multimillion dollar plans.

While developers and city officials will have to continue to look at the new plans to see if they are feasible, this is a good start to a compromise on this issue.

And this is exactly how the controversy should have been resolved, with people on all sides of the issue coming together and rationally discussing their differences, then moving forward with the best ideas.

While disagreements on any issue are inevitable, the depth of the vitriol behind this controversy has been sorely disappointing &8212; and it has shown how much we needed our leadership to step forward and bring all parties together.

We&8217;re glad that the Historic Natchez Foundation, a longtime leader in our community, facilitated the talks on the new design.

As the developers look at how that design fits in with their plans, we hope city officials will learn a lesson from this process and support the compromise.
