Ferriday officials have set a week-long cleanup for the community, with Dumpsters being placed in all five of the town&8217;s districts.

This is a great opportunity for residents to clean up &8212; and a great reminder that they need to keep the town clean throughout the year, not just for one week.

Ferriday Mayor Gene Allen said the week-long cleanup allows residents to take care of their own homes and businesses.

That&8217;s a good lesson for all of us &8212; in every community in the Miss-Lou.

If we all take care of our own spaces, we&8217;ll always have a clean community.

It may seem trite, but having a clean, well-kept city is essential to attracting visitors and industry.

Economic development officials have long said that the first impression a town makes can make or break a business deal.

Do we want prospective business owners to see trash in medians, old cars in yards or buildings falling down?

Taking care of our own communities and our own homes also helps instill pride in the community, and Ferriday Alderman Johnnie Brown said that&8217;s also one of the reasons for this week&8217;s cleanup.

So while Ferriday residents undertake their project to spruce up, we should all take the hint and make cleaning a habit.
