VIDALIA &8212; A woman charged with vehicular homicide from a 2004 accident on Carter Street turned herself in to the Vidalia Police Department Wednesday.

Shawna Lindley, 33, 7848 Oak Ridge Place, Meridian, was driving a Toyota at approximately 12:30 a.m. on July 30 when she struck an 18-wheeler from behind.

Her passenger, Paul Hines Jr., of Forrest, was killed in the collision.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was not seriously injured in the accident.

Lindley suffered extensive injuries that have kept her in a wheelchair.

Vidalia Police Chief Billy Hammers said his department had been in contact with Lindley throughout her recovery and rehabilitation process and had been confident she wouldn&8217;t try to escape.

&8220;She knew this was coming, she just had to wait until she was well enough to come in,&8221; Hammers said.

Lindley&8217;s mother brought her from Meridian to be served the warrant.

She was booked at VPD headquarters and transferred to the Concordia Parish Sheriff&8217;s Office to await a magistrate hearing.

Seventh District Judge Leo Boothe set her bond at $50,000. She was later released of her own recognizance.
