The good news that made headlines last week is almost too much to mention in this space, so we better get started:

The Adams County Youth Drug Court program graduated its fourth class Thursday.

Five youth made it through the program by, among other criteria, maintaining C averages, attending weekly support groups and taking frequent drug tests.

Speaking of youth, the Natchez-Adams School District on Tuesday opened the first of its fitness centers.

This one, at Robert Lewis Middle School, has a variety of fitness and sports equipment. That center, and one to be opened soon at Morgantown Elementary, were funded by $482,683 in grants. Also, the centers, which are open after school, are free and open to anyone in the public.

Two Natchez Trace-related awards were given out at the Mississippi Tourism Association Governor&8217;s Conference Awards.

The Tourism Promotion of the Year Award went to the National Park Service and the Natchez Trace Compact for their promotion of the parkway and its completion last year. And Parkway Superintendent Windell Simpson was named Governmental Friend of Tourism for his work with public and private entities to promote the parkway.
