FERRIDAY &8212;The boil order will remain in effect until the results from bacteria tests are returned from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, Mayor Gene Allen said.

Water Department Supervisor Gregory Griggs had completed the process of chlorinating the system and would have samples to submit for testing at the first of the week.

&8220;Mr. Griggs will have the samples in Alexandria by 10 a.m. Monday,&8221;

he said. &8220;Mr. (Chris) Soileau said he would have them tested as soon as he could.&8221;

Soileau is an engineer with DHH in the public safety division.

Allen said the test results could possibly come back as soon as Monday evening, but Tuesday for sure.

Ferriday residents got their water back Friday night after two days of intermittent service. Several people reported the water was discolored into the morning. Allen said the discoloration was part of the repressurization and flushing process necessary to get the operation back online.

&8220;Whenever you lose pressure and then flush the lines, that&8217;s normal,&8221; Allen said. &8220;But the leak is fixed and everything is back to normal.&8221;

Boil order or no, the town&8217;s citizens continued about their business Saturday. A trip through town saw activity at a laundromat and a crawfish boil was going on as scheduled.
