MONTEREY — A local woman was killed Sunday when she apparently lost control of her vehicle and ran off the road.

Louisiana State Police said Sheila Farrar, 46, of Monterey, was driving north on Louisiana 129 near Joe’s Horseshoe Marina when the accident occurred.

Troopers responded to the accident at approximately 10 a.m.

Farrar was driving a 2006 Nissan Maxima. After she left the roadway to the right side, she apparently over corrected and re-entered the highway crashing into a bridge railing.

She was not wearing her seat belt, according to the release.

She was transported to Riverland Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
