It&8217;s rained so much over the 15 years the Vikings have hosted the tournament it&8217;s almost become commonplace. Head coach Johnny Lee Hoffpauir jokingly took some of the blame for the rain that moved through the area Thursday and washed out the first day of the VHS tournament.

The coach altered the schedule to fit everything into today and Saturday. Cathedral will face Pineville at 3:30 p.m. today in the first game.

&8220;The weather, it seems, is always an issue,&8221; Hoffpauir said. &8220;This is about 15 years old, and out of those 15, 12 of them we&8217;ve had rained out, sleeted out and froze out. A little bit of everything has happened.&8221;

The tournament will have three games today with two games scratched from the Saturday schedule to get everything in. False River Academy will face St. Frederick at 5:45 p.m., and West Feliciana and Springhill will follow.

The two games will be homecomings for two Vidalia natives. FRA head coach Glen Donald will bring his team back after playing in last year&8217;s tournament, and Springhill head coach Bill Moseley is back coaching the Lumberjacks after being away from the program the last two years.

Those two games were initially scheduled for Friday. The Vidalia-Jena game got pushed back until 9 a.m. Saturday.

&8220;(Donald) is bringing a very good team this year,&8221; Hoffpauir said. &8220;They haven&8217;t lost a game up to early last week. He&8217;s back and loaded. He&8217;s playing St. Fred, who the night before last beat the No. 6 team out of 2A in Loyola.

&8220;Pineville is loaded. I had to put them in my (half of the) bracket because they were the only team at the time that could play on Thursday. This is probably the strongest bracket overall we&8217;ve had.&8221;

Action will continue all day Saturday with the championship scheduled for 8:15 p.m.
