Before starting this week of work and play, let&8217;s take a look at the good news that made headlines last week:

Alcorn State University held a ribbon cutting and open house Tuesday for the Graduate Business Programs Building at its Natchez campus.

The building represents a $10 million investment. And President Clinton Bristow said it also represents a partnership of city, county and business leaders that made the project happen.

Also, Bristow said the new building will help expand a program in which students can get associate degrees from Copiah-Lincoln Community College&8217;s Natchez campus, then complete their four-year degrees at nearby Alcorn.

Ten volunteers from James Madison University in Virginia spent their spring break in Natchez helping several nonprofits spruce up and complete other tasks.

Volunteers could be found at the Sunshine Shelter, the museum of the Natchez Association for the Preservation of Afro-American Culture and the Red Cross, to name just a few locations.

The group&8217;s faculty leader said such trips help students learn the rewards that come from helping others &8212; and learn leadership as well.
