Rentech, food bank led good news

Last week was full of good news, so let&8217;s get started with the list:
After weeks of juggling funding figures, holding committee meetings and spending long hours at the Capitol, the Legislature passed a measure that included $15 million for the Rentech project.
The plant will hire 200 people, not counting up to 1,500 people in the construction phase, and make fuel the federal government says is some of the cleanest around.
Here&8217;s to the cooperation
on all levels of government that made it happen.
United Way found out this week that, pending Gov. Haley Barbour&8217;s signature, they could get funding for a food bank, thanks to another bill that passed the Legislature. The Ministerial Alliance would take over long-term operation of the facility, which is certainly needed in our area.
That&8217;s not to mention several other good news headlines that appeared last week, including news of Entergy customers&8217; bills going down 5.5 percent this spring; aldermen giving approval for five new police officers to be hired; Fats Domino being inducted into the Delta Music Hall of Fame and the related festival attracting healthy crowds; and local health care facilities raising more than $900 for Relay for Life.
Hopefully, this week will be just as full of good news. Let&8217;s all work to make that happen.
