Last week saw awards, parade

Winter 2012 still seems like an uncertainty in this area, but we won’t complain about pleasant afternoons in January.
Great temperatures have made for a few fun days lately, especially after storms moved through.
Let’s look back on a few of the good, fun things that occurred last week — inside and out.
– The Krewe of Vidal rolled through the streets of Vidalia with the area’s first Mardi Gras parade of the year. This new krewe has focused its fun on family, and we are glad area residents enjoyed the affair.
– Asia Holloway, a student at Natchez High, will be headed to Jackson later this week to compete for the title of Boys & Girls Club state youth of the year. Holloway already claimed the local title, and we wish her luck on the state level. But no matter the outcome of this competition, we know Holloway — a top student who volunteers to help others — has a bright future ahead.
– Congratulations goes not only to Natchez Inc. Chairwoman Sue Stedman — who won the Teamwork Mississippi Community Leadership Award — but to all those who worked to make Natchez Inc. a local success. As Stedman said, the award goes to many.
– More than 100 Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity members filled town this weekend for their district convention. We were happy to play host, and we hope they enjoyed Natchez.
– Congratulations to Sheriff Randy Maxwell, who was named the Concordian of the Year at last week’s Concordia Chamber dinner. Maxwell has certainly served his parish in a major way for many years.
As we welcome February this week, we’ll have to continue to wait on winter with the knowledge that a bright and shiny spring is just around the corner.
